They say that one man’s trash is another’s treasure, and so it must be with art. Sara J. Schleicher, whose
work is on display through Friday, December 10 at the University of Findlay’s Lea Gallery, has found her passion in nature’s cast-offs. “Remains that people step on, curse, sweep away, or till under are things that I see as gorgeous fi nds with barbs and gnarls and secrets and strength,” says the Bowling Green artist. “This obsession with natural debris found in the environment has materialized into a collection of small common objects that I
fi nd stunning and desirable.” Schleicher grew up on her family’s ranch in western Nebraska and received a B.F.A. in printmaking from the University of Wyoming in 2003. After a stint at the University of Wyoming Art Museum, she was accepted into graduate school at Bowling Green State University and earned an M.F.A. in 2D studio art in May 2009. She now works as the coordinator of fi ne arts admission and promotion and an adjunct instructor for the School of Art at BGSU. The Lea Gallery is located inside the Virginia B. Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion on The University of Findlay campus. Open 8am-8pm daily, the gallery features the work of local, regional and nationally-acclaimed artists.
