If the word “exercise” doesn’t fly with your teen, try the word “party.” Zumba, taught by fitness instructor Carla Treadway at the Rolling Thunder Skating and Family Fun Center, feels more like a dance club party than an exercise class. With strobe lights flashing overhead, participants wield glow sticks and groove to the pulsating beats of Latin and hip hop tunes. It’s so entertaining they don’t realize they’re burning calories and toning muscles. No previous dance experience is needed for this unstructured class that focuses on having fun, not following exact moves. The Zumba class welcomes participants of all ages and all levels of fitness. Teens can attend with a group of friends or with their parents. “I’m a fire starter, and I mean that in a good way,” said Treadway. “You won’t leave this class feeling like you’ve left a boot camp, you’ll leave feeling good.” Classes take place from 5:30-6:30 pm. every Wednesday at Rolling Thunder Skating and Family Fun Center, 2225 Keith Pkwy.
Cost is $5 per class, paid at the door. No need to register in advance. Email carlacoaches@yahoo.com for more information. 419-422-7227. www.rollingthunder-findlay.com.
